I hate the experience behind leap motion. From the beginning to the end - it has been crapulous. They are really really bad at running the company. Just today I got the controller in mail and couldn't wait to try it out. First, the controller wasn't being recognized by the inbuilt software and I had to disconnect the damn thing at least 10 times for it it actually recognize the device.
After, recognizing I went through the orientation and it was ok except for the fact that it couldn't figure out the position of finger tips during certain hand gestures. Next step is to download some apps from Airspace which is Leap Motions app store. I completed the form for a new account and it took me back to the login screen without telling me if I registered successfully or not. I tried logging in with my new credentials and ehhh....can't. I did it multiple times and again the same thing.
This is not the first time the company has disappointed me. The delay in shipment was very frustrating on top of that I had to re-enter my credit card information at least three times because every time I'd do it they'd send an email saying that it didn't go though correctly.
Really pissing off. First of all, it is fine and dandy that you have all the slick demos and stuff but you really don't require any of that. Their first iteration should've been something simple and mainly for developers. The whole experience is real frustrating. Before buying I advise people to wait until the company gets its act together.
Really shameful to see how poorly they've handled this.

Absolutely agree. After waiting almost a year, it has been extremely frustrating.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. I eagerly installed mine, went through orientation and then...I'm ready to send it back. It's not at all what I expected from the demo videos from last year. I have ZERO use for this thing. There is nothing useful or entertaining about having to hover both hands over this thing, uncomfortably, trying to get it to recognize my fingers.
ReplyDeleteThe technology is solid. You have to understand there are going to be some quirks they have to work out. The developers also use the API. Stay tuned! This technology is going to work very well in a few months.

DeleteThe technology is not solid in the least. It still doesn't work well, and even in theory, a 2d capture mechanism can never truly yield rich 3d interaction. Adding an IR array doesn't change that fact. Perfect interface device for someone that has their arms outstretched and their hands flat at all times. LEAP motion? More like LEAP zombie.
Deletebiggest piece of sh@t I have bought this year...
ReplyDeleteSubmitted a return for mine. Very disappointed.
ReplyDeleteThis is the worst frigging startup with the most crapiest product. Similar to those posted above, couldn't get it to work right and it is just way underwhelming.
ReplyDeleteCalled in to ask for an RMA to return, got a girl in a call center in Utah to answer the phone, more than a week ago and I have yet to get any emails with the RMA to return (although she said I would get it within the next couple of days). I have since then called and every frigging time, the answering machine asked me to leave messages which I have left 3 already.
6 months from now, you will not know who Leapmotion was!
A bunch of snops running this company.
Biggest POS in the history of gadgetry.
ReplyDeleteAgreed that it sucks. Ordered the devices, was told that order is to be shipped. Then waited for a month called in again and was told that order was cancelled, all without any notice because billing and shipping address was different. Called in customer service and they could not help with anything, told me to reorder again!!!
ReplyDeleteVery disappointed in this thing. It's a cool idea, but years from being useful at the consumer level.
